WORSENING conditions in Thar are alarming. Despite the government action, the aid of millions of dollars and active involvement of international organisations engaged in bringing harmony and prosperity to the region, the land of Thar has failed to witness any profound change in the plight of its forsaken people.

There is a high mortality rate among children because of malnutrition, lack of clean drinking water, and deadly diseases.

Amid the traditional evils, there are some still unaddressed ones like child marriages, where the girls are too young to give birth.

What worsens the situation is lack of antenatal care.
