11killed in accidents in AJK

MUZAFFARABAD: At least 11 people were killed and 29 others injured in four different road accidents in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on the second day of Eid on Tuesday, police said.

The major accident occurred near Kotehra village, some 13 kilometres on the outskirts of Rawalakot, when a public transport vehicle, coming to Hornamera village from Rawalpindi, fell down the road.

`While negotiating a curve, the vehicle went out of the driver`s control, hit a roadside tree and fell down, killing seven people on the spot and injuring the remaining nine,` an official told Dawn.

Victims included a Rawalpindi-based Kashmiri family which was on its way to Hornamera to attend a funeral on Wednesday, he said.

The deceased were identified as Sikandar (driver), Zohaib (conductor), Hafeez, Sufyan, Jahangir, Shamim and Najma.

In Muzaffarabad district, a passenger wagon coming here from Noseri fell down the Neelum Valley road onto the rocky bank of River Jhelum near a place known as Mai Ammi Sahib, leaving one person identified as Sadaqat dead and 13 others wounded.

Another two persons identified as police constable Noor Hussain and Mir Hussain were killed and seven others wounded when a jeep plunged into a ditch while plying on a link road leading to Sarli Sacha village towards the northwest of Muzaffarabad.
