MIRPURKHAS/MITHI: Two containers laden with iron material, instruments and other metal articles were confiscated and their four crew members arrested by the Naukot police on Sunday after the goods turned out to be stolen from Thar Coal’s Block-II, in Islamkot, police said.
They said they had received a secret information about the theft and the containers’ movement from Islamkot to Faisalabad.
While the long vehicles carrying the consignments were passing through the limits of the Naukot police station of Mirpurkhas, they were signalled to stop for checking, Naokot SHO Rahim Gopang told Dawn.
He said the crew produced gate passes of the cargo but when the Thar Coal administration was contacted for the verification of the gate passes, it declared them fake.
Accordingly, he added, the consignments and vehicles were seized and their drivers and cleaners arrested.
An FIR against them was registered on behalf of the state, he said.
The arrested suspects were identified as Shakeel Ahmed Arain, Yamin Yasin, Ali Dars and Nek Mohammad Narejo.
