Five-year-old boy killed as house collapses in firecrackers blast

HYDERABAD: A five-year-old boy was killed and his aunt seriously injured when firecrackers material stocked on the third floor of their house exploded and caused partial collapse of a house on Monday.

The deceased boy was identified as Ayan, son of Naeem. His 45-year-old aunt, Nasreen, was taken to the Liaquat University Hospital (LUH) and then referred to a Karachi hospital due to her serious condition.

According to officials at the Phuleli police station, the explosion occurred at around 3.30pm on the third floor of the house, located in street number five near Tando Yousuf railway crossing.

The explosion also damaged the side walls of the room.

The explosion caused a fire in the house which was extinguished by residents of the neighbourhood and firefighters.

Phulelli police said they would register an FIR against Saleem Shaikh.

A similar explosion had taken place in the warehouse of Mr Shaikh at around midnight on Dec 11, 2017 in the old powerhouse area, which falls within the limits of the same police station. The incident had left a boy, Shayan, son of Waseem Shah, dead. Shaikh was arrested in Karachi but eventually released on bail.
