Kin of two slain men blame police for suspect`s escape

TOBA TEK SINGH: Scores of relatives of two murdered men staged on Friday a protest demonstration at Faisalabad`s District Council Chowk against alleged negligence of police resulting in escape of thesuspect, who was in custody, on Thursday.
The protesters gathered at the busyintersection and blocked for traffic different roads converging there and chanted slogans against police. They were carrying placards inscribed with their demand for immediate arrest the suspect.
They told reporters that eight months ago, the suspect, Zulfiqar Ali, had shot dead two friends -Sabir and Altaf -for raising their voice on social media against sale of narcotics by him.
They alleged the suspect had been admitted to the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology (FIC) for thelast 20 days, in connivance with the police, was allowed to move without handcuffs and finally he managed to escape.
They expressed their concern that after his escape lives of the victims` relatives were under threat, but police did not disclosed he had Red even after the passage of 24 hours. They said that they came to know about his escape through newspapers, demanding hisimmediate rearrest for their protection.
Meanwhile, Faisalabad City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani claimed the Civil Lines police had arrested the three policemen who were on duty at the hospital and sent them behind bars after registration of a case against them.
He said police parties were conducting raids to arrest the fleeing suspect under the supervision of an SP, hoping he would be arrested soon.
Mr Hamdani also assured the relatives of the victims of their protection.
