Govt asked to hold elections of teachers association

SWABI, Nov 10: The local teachers of public sector schools have demanded of the government to hold elections of their association in the province.

The teachers in a meeting held here on Sunday that the last elections of their association were held 22 years ago in 1992. The meeting, presided over by district leader of teachers Abdul Latif, was attended by teachers of four tehsils of the district.

They said that all affairs of teachers were controlled by Malgary Ustazan, the teacher wing of ANP, during the previous government in the province. They said that they were leaderless but there were many self-proclaimed leaders in the province.

They said that several people called themselves leaders because teachers were deprived of their true leadership. The previous provincial governments and some teacher leaders were responsible for the situation, they added.

`No doubt there are some teachers, who have created problems for their fellow teachers. They have victimised the teachers and deprived them of their true leadership,` said Ijaz Khan, the district vice-president of teachers association.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Latif said that government should announce elections of teachers association in the province. `We would help the government in resolving and identifying problems of teachers,` he said.Meanwhile, primary schoolteachers have demanded restoration of old promotion formula and award of increments to them for higher qualification.

They said that the high and higher secondary school teachers were awarded increments for higher qualification but the primary teachers were deprived of the increments.

The only feeder in Charbagh covers congested areas like Shagai, Pirtab Gar, Palondand, Azam Abad, Naro Banda, Salim Khan Shakh, Beena, Serai, Bakar, Aurang Abad, Gohati, Rashthini, Mersi Banda, Charbagh and various regions of Kernel Sher Khan Kili. `Power outages due to tripping of feeder has created a lot of problems for consumers. But the relevant officials are not bothered to resolve the matter,` said a consumer in Palodand.

Another consumer said the feeder supplied electricity to some 18,000 consumers due to which it often got tripped due to overload.

When contacted Pesco sources said that Rs12.5 million had been sanctioned to install second feeder at Charbagh, but work on the project delayed due to unknown reasons.
