Man gets life term in double murder case

LAHORE: An additional district and sessions court on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment on two counts to a man in a double murder case.

The court found Ilyas alias Laali guilty of killing Nazir and Mohammad Nawaz on Sept 23, 2000, in Manawan over a trifle.

The case was registered on the complaint of victim`s brother Bashir Ahmed.

The prosecution alleged the suspect had shot dead Nazir and Nawaz over lifting some sand from his area.

Judge Shazib Saeed ordered the convict to pay Rs400,000 as compensation to heirs of the deceased and in case of default he would undergo an additional six-month imprisonment.

BABY HANDED OVER: An additional district and sessionsjudgeonWednesday handed over a baby girl to her mother after recovering her from illegal custody of her father.

Anila Tanveer of Sherakot had filed a habeas corpus petition alleging that her husband, Imran Zaidi, had kicked her out of the house over family problems some two months ago, but after reconciliation she went back on Nov 11.

She alleged her husband on her return had beaten her and after snatching her two and a half years old daughter, Ateega, forcibly thrown her out of the house.

She pleaded the court for the recovery of her daughter.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Shahida Saeed appointed the Sherakot station house officer as bailiff on her plea.

The SHO raided the house of Imran Zaidi, recovered the girl and produced her before the court. Later, the child was handed over to her mother.
