Sheikh Rashid to petition SC for PM`s cross-examination

2017-07-12
RAWALPINDI: Awami Muslim League (AML) President Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Tuesday that he would submit a petition in the Supreme Court next week pleading the court to summon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for cross examination after the report from the joint investigation team (JIT) looking into the Panama Papers case.

`I want to bring the prime minister to the witness box for cross examination,` the MNA said at a press conference at the RawalpindiPress Club. He said he would also produce evidence before the SC about the Punjab government`s corruption in development projects launched in the province.

`I will also file a fresh application with the SC seeking the formation of a three member JIT in NAB to probe the prime minister and his family,` he said.

He said his prediction about the victory of the law and the political funeral of the PML-N in the Panama Papers leaks had come true.`I moved the SC against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his involvement in corruption, but the Sharif family proved to be guilty and robbers,` he claimed.

He said that according to the JIT report, Maryam Nawaz was the owner of offshore companies, and nobody would stop Nawaz Sharif from being disqualified as the JIT had found an offshore company owned by him.

`The PML-N has rejected the JIT report, which showed Nawaz Sharif wants to wage awar against the army and the SC in the Panama Leaks issue,` Mr Ahmed said.

`The prime minister should respect the law and step down from his office immediately, or be ready to go to Adiala jail,` he added.

In response to a question, he said he owned five marlas of land and the upper portion of Lal Haveli, and vowed to vacate his residence if the authorities proved he was illegally occupying the site.-A Reporter
