CM approves electric buses for Lahore

LAHORE: Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Wednesday gave in principle approval to the proposal of plying green electric buses on Lahore roads and directed that all related work should be completed as soon as possible.

The buses will ply on 103-kilometre long six different routes in Lahore.

This service will also be introduced in other cities through the public-private partnership.

Chairing a transport department meeting, the chief minister asked the officials to submit comprehensive recommendations as soon as possible because the new facility would help reduce environmental degradation and smog.

The meeting decided to reactivate the vehicle inspection and certification system to eradicate smog.

The chief minister said the Lahore TransportCompany would be converted into Punjab Transport Company.

The chief minister gave approval to the recruitment of inspectors, subinspectors and sergeants with the direction to improve cleanliness arrangements of the Orange Line Metro Train.

He said no compromise would be made and added that he would personally inspect cleanliness by conducting surprise visits.

Meanwhile, he disclosed that public transport would be introduced, for the first time, in Koh-eSuleman areas.

He said best transport facilitywouldbeprovided to Kot Chutta, Vohwa, Tibi Qaiserani, Taunsa and DG Khan at subsidized rates.

He also announced that latest buses would be introduced in Faisalabad and other divisions.

Minister Transport Jahanzeb Khan Khichi, secretarytransport,transport specialist and others attended the meeting.
