Turkey offers assistance to LEAs: minister

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Anti-Terrorism Shuja Khanzada has said Turkish Interior Minister Afkan Ali has appreciated efforts of the Punjab government in introducing police reforms and setting up a Command and Control Centre.

He has also offered full cooperation in capacity building of law-enforcement institutions of Pakistan.

According to a handout, he said this while talking to journalists in his office after returning fmm his visit to Turkey.

He said he met the Turk minister in Ankara and apprised him of his government`s effective legislation for fighting terrorism and sectarianism.

`The Punjab government has set up a special AntiTerrorism Force and the federal government has set up a new constitution under the name of National Counter Terrorism Authority, whereas other provinces are also taking similar steps with the consultancy of the federal government:` he said.

He said the Turk minister said both Islamic countries were facing similar challenges and Turkey would be pleased to share its experiences with Pakistan and join hands in uprooting terrorism.

He told the journalists the Turk minister had offered full cooperation in providing capacity building training and technical expertise to the law-enforcement institutions of Pakistan.
