LAHORE: Two more people died of Covid-19 in the province`s southern parts on Monday in addition to 192 people testing positive for coronavirus in Punjab during the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 2,656.

The two patients died in Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur, taking the death toll from the illness to 22 in Punjab.

A senior doctor of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology and two chil-dren were among the latest cases of the virus.

Of the 192 cases, 113 were reported from the quarantine centres across Punjab housing Tableeghi Jamaat members, including the maximum of 29 in Muzaffargarh district. The district now has 52 preachers infected with the virus.

Among other citizens, 77 new cases were reported across the province, including 19 in Lahore.

The total number of infected prisoners reached 89afterseveninGujranwala and nine in Dera Ghazi Khan prisons tested positive for the virus.

An official said two minor siblings -a 10-year-boy and his younger sister -from Rasool Park, Ravi Town were shifted to the Children Hospital after they tested positive for Covid-19. He said the children`s grandfather was already under treatment at Mayo Hospital, Lahore for coronavirus.

The official said the children`s mother got emotional while they werebeing taken to hospital in an ambulance. She handed them over a backpack with their stuff as well as a copy of the holy Quran.

Children Hospital Dean Dr Masood Sadiq said the siblings` father had also contracted the virus earlier and was being treated at the Expo Centre field hospital. On the family`s request, the children were shifted to that hospital so they could be around their father.

Dr Sadig further said there were five children undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at the Children Hospital, while two had been discharged earlier, including a 15-month-old girl the youngest coronavirus patient to be released from hospital after recovery.
