LAHORE: In a province-wide crackdown, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) disposed of 40,000 litres of adulterated milk on Sunday.

The PFA teams under the supervision of veterinary specialists held screening tests on the entry and exist points of the 144 tehsils. The teams confiscated 9,000 litre in Lahore, 16,000 litre in Gujranwala, 1,820 litre in Bahawalpur, 1,700 litre in Multan, 380 litre in Khanewal, 1,388 litre in Dera Ghazi Khan, 7,000 litre in Faisalabad and Sahiwal divisions and 560 litre in Vehari and Bahawalnagar.

PFA Director General Noorul Amin Mengal said the public was consuming thousands of litres of milk in Punjab on a daily basis. He said the milk was not packed and it was not safe for consumer health.

He said they were trying to implement milk pasteurization law to eliminate adulterated milk. “The sale of loose milk will be completely banned within five years and milk will be available in packing form,” he said. — Reporter
