KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were shot dead in an alleged encounter in Gulistan-i-Jauhar in the wee hours of Thursday morning, police said.

They said that the encounter took place between law enforcers and robbers near Kamran Chowrangi, where, after an exchange of gunfire, two robbers were arrested in wounded condition.

They were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

The police identified them as Qalab Ali and Mohammed Ramzan.

Area SHO Fahadul Hasan said that a police patrol signalled two motorcyclists to stop. But they resorted to firing and tried to speed away. The police returned fire, and as a result, both suspects were gunned down.

He said a crowd gathered on the spot during the encounter.

A citizen among the crowd approached the police and identified one of the deceased as the robber who had snatched cash from him within the remit of the Aziz Bhatti police station.-Staff Reporter
