PM: uplift projects
2016-05-16
THIS refers to the news report `Sharif says instability drives away investment` (May 3).
It appears realisation has suddenly dawned on the prime minister to inaugurate six projects in Balochistan in just 20 minutes following the heat from the corruption allegations.
Instead of visiting the actual site of construction, the embattled prime minister chose to have the ceremony hosted at the Governor`s House and moved from one plaque to another.
This turned out to be a novel way of inaugurating projects. It is another matter whether these projects will ever materialise given the record of PML-N`s incompetence.
It will not be surprising if more of such ceremonies are held in other parts of the country to project a fake perception of all-round development.
Nawaz Sharif made an interesting observation: `Investors avoid investing in a region where some elements cause political instability by their so-called movements` Perhaps, he has a short memory. He did exactly the same, which he now criticises, during ex-President Pervez Musharraf`s rule by supporting the lawyers` movement.
Or, maybe, he was trying to build justification for his family`s vast business interests in the UK and in other countries.
