Two detained for possessing weapons, ammunition

TAXILA: The police and other law enforcement agencies picked up two suspects f rom Hassanabdal on Friday and moved them to an undisclosed location for interrogation after arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession.

According to police officials, a Haripur bound vehicle coming from Rawalpindi was intercepted near Cadet College Chowk and a Kalashnikov, a rifle, a 9mm pistol and other ammunition were recovered from the two suspects identified as Ismail who is a resident of Rahim Yar Khan and Mohammad Akram, a resident of Haripur.

Separately, two of a three member gang of drug peddlers were arrested in Hassanabdal on Friday and 1.4kg of hashish were recovered from their possession.

According to police officials, the suspects identiñed as Babar Shahzad and Farrukh Mehmood were on their way to supply drugs to their customers in the Jhallaser Village when they were intercepted by a police party led by ASI Zaheer Ahmed.

The third member of the gang, Shahid Iqbal, who manages the operation of the gang, managed to flee before the raid. A case was registered against the gang under the narcotics act and a hunt was launched for securing the arrest of the Shahid Iqbal.

The Taxila and Wah Saddar police conducted raids on two separate gambling dens and arrested 11 gamblers.

The Taxila police raided a den in Mohalla Gheela Khurs and arrested four suspects while the Wah Saddar police raided a gambling den in Nawababad and arrested seven suspects.

Cash and gambling paraphernalia were also seized.

The Anti-Car Lifting Cell of Hassanabdal recovered a car stolen from Faisalabad in 2011. The police registered separate cases and started further investigations. Correspondent
