Handcuffed prisoner escapes from court

RAWALPINDI: A handcuffed under-trial prisoner who was brought to court from Adiala jail managed to escape from police custody on Friday.
The accused, Naimatullah, who had been on judicial remand in a theft case registered last year, was brought to the court of civil judge Sadagat Ali Khan on Friday. The handcuffed accused, guarded by an assistant sub-inspector and two constables, was waiting for the proceeding of his case when he managed to slip away from the crowded courtroom.
After the incident came to light, the police launched a searchfor the escapee.
Meanwhile, the City Traffic Police have so far provided driving licence services to 24,846 citizens this month, says a press release.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Taimoor Khan said 18,610 applicants obtained learner`s permits while 985 new licences were issued by various licensing centres of Rawalpindi.
In addition to it, citizens also obtained 170 international licences and 58 duplicate ones.
As many as 2,742 licences were renewed while confirmation of 368 licences was done.
Other facilities related to licensing were also provided to 1,913 people this month, the CTO said. Staff Reporter
