KARACHI: A young man died of Congo-Crimean haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) at the Ojha hospital of the Dow University of Health Sciences early Sunday morning, taking this year’s tally of such deaths in the city to 10, officials said.
He was the fourth victim of the lethal infection within a month, officials said.
Early this month, a 35-year-old woman from Hyderabad died of the CCHF at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
“The patient, Mohammad Nasir, was a resident of Model Colony, who was admitted to the hospital two days ago in a critical condition,” said Dr Zafar Mehdi while speaking to Dawn.
The previous nine victims included a resident of Benazirabad district, and two each belonging to Bahawalpur and Afghanistan. However, all of them died in the health facilities of Karachi. —Staff Reporter
