LG DEPT UNDER FIRE: The Balakot tehsil council on Friday approved a resolution urging the local government department to cancel the recent appointments to the Balakot Tehsil Municipal Administration by the tehsil municipal of ficer.
Also, the treasury members announced they would challenge those `illegal` appointments in the court of law as they`re made by bypassing the tehsil nazim.
The council met here with convener Sardar Abdul Qudus in the chair.
Qazi Sadiq said the local government department had illegally appointed four employees to the Balakot TMA without consulting the tehsil nazim.
`Now when the local government law is in place, it is the privilege of the tehsil nazim to make appointments to the TMA and therefore, the local government department`s recent orders for the TMA appointments should be quashed at once,` he said.
Ashfaq Khan of the ruling PML-N said he would challenge those appointments in the court of law.`We, the elected representatives of the local government, are totally toothless. We should move the court together to secure the powers granted under the LG law. I`ll take the LG department to the court for these illegal appointments,` he said.
Sardar Shahjehan Chachi of the treasury benches tabled a resolution in the house seeking the immediate termination of the contract of the TMA`s legal adviser for absenting himself from the council`s sessions.
The council adopted the resolution by a majority vote.
Another ruling party member, Abdul Ghafoor, complained the TMA officials didn`t act upon the house`s previous resolutions on development projects.
He said he condemned the TMA`s inaction on the house`s resolutions, especially the creation of hurdles by its employees for development work.
The member said the council had passed a resolution almost a year ago seeking funds for the construction of boundary walls of the TMA and nazim offices and TMA halls but there was no progress on it.
Councillor Yasmeen Zaman complained that almost 12 years had passed after an earthquake destroyed the Balakot Red Zone but the survivors continued to reel from the aftermath of the calamity. She demanded that the government exempt the quake survivors from all sort of taxes.
