SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: The district administration has imposed Section 144 of the code of criminal procedure (CrPC) for one month in parts of Shakai tehsil amid an ongoing land dispute between the Sperakai and Khujalkhel tribes.
According to a notification issued by Lower South Waziristan deputy commissioner Musarrat Zaman on Thursday, Section 144 will remain in force from September 17 to October 16 in Landi Noor and Kanrai Raghzai areas.
The administration said the restrictions had been imposed to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident in the area, where tensions between the two tribes have reportedly persisted over a land dispute.
Under the notification, gatherings of four or more people have been prohibited in the affected areas, while carrying and displaying all kinds of weapons and ammunition have also been banned.
The notification further prohibits public gatherings and the establishment of tents or bunkers in Landi Noor and Kanrai Raghzai. The closure of roads and markets has also been prohibited, while the parties to the dispute have been barred from arresting or detaining members of the opposing side.
The administration warned that violators would face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Meanwhile, police said tension persisted in the Shakai valley for about a week as the two tribes remained engaged in a dispute over land.
District police officer Shah Hasan told Dawn on phone that firing took place between the two sides in Shakai on Thursday. He said a man identified as Lal Mohammad, belonging to the Sperakai tribe, was injured in the firing.
According to the DPO, the injured man was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for medical treatment. Correspondent
