LAHORE: The Punjab University Academic Staff Association (ASA) on Wednesday demanded that the government appoint regular vice chancellor of the institution.
The ASA meeting was held at the Punjab University to discuss the political affairs of the campus.
The meeting attended by ASA President Prof Javed Sami, Secretary Iftikhar Tarar, VPs Dr Asghar Iqbal and Dr Shahid Ghazi, Joint Secretary Dr Islam, Dr Majid Majeed Akbar and other executive members condemned acting Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Moeen for attending and addressing political party (Jamaat-i-Islami) teachers wing Tanzeem1-Asatza`s annual gathering.
They alleged the current vice chancellor was involved in strengthening Tanzeem-i-Asatza and their student wing Islami Jamiat Tulaba (IJT). They also alleged that the university`s convocation was postponed to please the JI leaders.
The ASA members said they would not allow involvement of any political party in the university affairs. They demanded that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif immediately appoint a regular VC and take notice of the political gathering on the campus.
GCU: A 40-member delegation of the Balochistan Residential College (BRC), Khuzdar on Wednesday visited theGovernment College University for a study tour.
The delegationheaded byBRCKhuzdar senior faculty member Prof Mattiur Rehman visited various academic departments of the GCU.
GCU Director Sports Khadim Ali Khan said: `We are all Pakistanis and we have to serve and protect our country without considering our caste, sect and personal interests.
The students also visited the library, Sports Complex and Naqoosh Museum and said their visit was very beneficial for their studies as they had learnt a lot from the teachers and students.
SEMINAR: The Punjab University`s Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) in collaboration with K-3 Shaheen and Websters University USA held a career counseling seminar on `How to get admission in USA universities` at Faiz Ahmed Faiz Hall.
Senior Executive International Recruitment Webster University Sjoerd Verstege, ICS In-charge Director Dr Noshina Saleem, Assistant Professor Shabbir Sarwar, Director Indus Pak Advisors Ghazali Saleem and CEO K-3 Shaheen Wajahat Ali were present.
The speakers briefed the students on the USA study policy in general studies and basic studies program of BS and master`s at Webster University Thailand based in St. Louis, Missouri in US. They said the university offered students on-campus and online degree courses in arts, science and for professional qualifications.
