GUJRAT: Around 20,000 candles and clay lamps were lit at the spectators` stand s of the Zahoor Elahi Cricket Stadium by the students of various schools, colleges and the University of Gujrat on Thursday in memory of the martyred students of the Peshawar attack.
The students also performed tableaus to highlight the sacrifices of the students as well as importance of the education for the new generation.
The ceremony was participated by the students and teachers and people from a cross section of society and the ground was full of flowers the participants had laid for the martyred students.
Before the start of theceremony, funeral prayers in absentia, led by Jamaati-Islami leader Dr Tariq Saleem, were of fered af ter which the participants observed silence for one minute.
The students reached the venue by holding candles, flowers as well as placards inscribed with the slogans against the terrorism, demanding eradication of terrorism and militancy from the country.
The students of the Jinnah Public School performed a tableau.
Speaking to the participants, District Police Officer Rai Ijaz Ahmed, MPA Haji Imran Zafar, Farooq Rasheed and others expressed resolve to wage a united war against the terrorism to steer the country out of militancy.
