App for textbooks at LCWU launched

LAHORE: The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) on Tuesday launched android application to digitise books at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU).

Textbooks from level one to intermediate will be available online through the app.

The event was organised in reference to eLearn Project of PITB at LCWU and it was attended by Prime Minister`s Task Force on IT and Telecom`s head Dr Attaur Rehman, LCWU Vice Chancellor Dr Farkhanda Manzoor, principal Mahrukh Bukhari and the PITB director general.

Keeping in view the IT vision of the Punjabgovernment and a practical step towards a knowledge economy, eLearn Punjab is a project of PITB which has developed digital content for (Grade 4-12) which is freely available on the website: https://elearn.punjab.gov.pk/ and eLearn App is also available on Google Play store.

PITB programme officer Mahnoor said there were 28 books of Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) relating to Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Maths which were digitised on a priority basis.

She said digital content means textbook of PCTB augmented with videos, animations, simulations, audios, and assessments.

She said PITB eLearn Punjab project was sponsored by the School EducationDepartment and it aimed to develop and implement digital interactive free textbooks in collaboration with PCTB.

Up till now the digital content of science and maths of grade 4 to 12 is available on the website: elearn.punjab.gov.pk and also available on the newly launched eLearn android app.

After the success of eLearn android app with 100k installations, eLearn is all set to implement its content at one of the best government colleges in Lahore. For this implementation, offline content will be made available at the IT lab of Lahore College for Women University and teachers will be encouraged to use this content in their lectures.
