ENCROACHMENTS on government land in the form of illegal katchi abadi housing have severely strained municipal services and resources. The situation has deteriorated even further since 2010 with the dismissal of the city government system and influx of internally displaced persons.

Karachi has other serious problems too.

The conditions of its water supply, sewerage, infrastructure, transport, health, education policy, and administrative functions are appalling.

Had the Rangers not been deployed to Karachi, it would have become the most dangerous in addition to dirtiest city in the world.
