Lawyers boycott courts

2016-08-23
KARACHI: Legal proceedings at the subordinate judiciary of the city remained suspended on Monday, as the lawyers boycotted court work to protest against non-arrest of Quetta blast culprits.

Lawyers also stayed away from legal proceedings at the Sindh High Court where judges took up urgent matters in their chambers.

Litigants faced difficulties, as hundreds of cases fixed for the day at the city courts and district courts in Malir were not taken up for hearing. The courts wore a deserted look as the jail authorities in view of the boycott didnot bring the under-trial prisoners to courts.

Pakistan Bar Council had given a countrywide boycott call after the relevant authorities failed to arrest the elements behind the Aug 8 bomb attack at Civil Hospital Quetta that lef t over 70 people, mostly lawyers, dead.

Lawyers said proper security was not provided to the legal fraternity after the Quetta bombing and no compensation was paid to the legal heirs of the deceased.

Legal work at the special courts was also badly affected due to the lawyers` protest.-Staff Reporter
