Rs400m for revamp of ABSTH approved

GUJRAT: The Punjab government has approved a programme for strategic transformation of Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital (ABST H).

As per the programme, the buildings of old blocks of the hospital will be revamped at a cost of Rs400 million as a sum of Rs100m has been earmarked initially for the execution of the project, say sources in the local administration.

They say the revamping of buildings has been part of specialised healthcare and medical education department`s aim to improve the building infrastructure of the tertiary care hospitals in the province.The main building of ABSTH has been in dire need of a revamp due to its dilapidated condition for long as most of the new blocks on the premises of the hospital had been established and constructed by the philanthropists during the last 14 years.

These new blocks also include state-of-the-art trauma centre, Zahoor Elahi block, burn unit, cardiology ward and others.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has also approved the construction of separate buildings for the district attorney costing Rs25m and office of the district public prosecutor at the cost of Rs40m as both the schemes had been proposed by the law and parliamentary affairs and public prosecution departments.
