RAWALPINDI: Lahore High Court (LHC)`s Rawalpindi bench on Monday issued notices to the counsel for the five death row convicts involved in the killing of seven armymen.

Ihsan Azeem, Asif Idrees, Amir Yousuf, Kamran Aslam and Umar Nadeem were convicted by a military court for killing army personnel near Gujrat in May 2012.

The banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had claimed responsibility for the attack.

On Monday, the court stayed the execution of the convicts after their counsel Laeeq Swati contended that the military authorities had not provided them copies of the trial proceedings for filing an appeal.

Later, Chaudhry Masroof, the standing counsel for the federal government, filed an application with the court against the stay order. He said the counsel for the convicts had concealed facts from the court. He said the five men were convicted following the due process of law.

The convicts were also given all the documents on the basis of which they had filed appeals with the military appellate court, he added.

On Tuesday, the counsel for the convicts did not appear before the court. As a result, Justice Arshad Mehmood Tabassum issued notice to the counsel and adjourned the hearing till Wednesday.
