KHAIRPUR: A massive electricity breakdown hit Khairpur district on Friday paralysing life in at least eight talukas in the first half of the day amid thick fog.
Power supply to all industrial, commercial and domestic consumers stopped when the eight grid stations tripped due to a fault in the main high tension line at about 6am. Sources in the power utility attributed the fault to fog.
All industrial and commercial concerns running on electricity remained non-functional and water and sewerage system was also affected until 2pm, when the power utility managed to re-energise the distribution system.
Meanwhile, fog crippled the routine life across the district with vehicular traffic plying at a very slow speed due to poor visibility until the afternoon.
Reports from various towns within the district suggested that attendance at most schools remained thin as school vans could not operate in the morning due to the fog.
