KARACHI: Two suspected Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan militants and an equal number of suspected robbers were shot dead in the early hours of Wednesday in what officials described as encounters in Surjani Town and Sachal Goth.

Police said four suspects riding two motorbikes were signalled by a police patrol to stop near Zero Point in Surjani. But they opened fire on the police in a bid to flee.

In an ensuing exchange of fire, two suspects were killed while their accomplices managed to escape, the officials said.

The deceased were identified as Adnan and Baran, members of the banned TTP, said Karachi-West SSP Azfar Mahesar.

The police claimed to have seized two pistols from their custody.

In the Sachal area, four robbers were allegedly looting people near the Sumera roundabout when police arrived there. In an ensuing encounter, two of the robbers were shot dead while their accomplices managed to escape, said Sachal SHO Shoaib Ahmed.

The police claimed to have seized two TT pistols and a motorbike from their custody.

The bodies were shifted to the Edhi morgue for identification.
