RAWALPINDI: The body of a young man was found in a cotton bag abandoned in the R.A. Bazaar area on Wednesday, police said.

Passersby spotted the bag and informed the local police, who moved the body to the District Headquarters Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

According to the initial investigation, the deceased was in his 30s and was strangled somewhere else. His body was placed in the bag and then discarded in a deserted location.

Police said nothing was found that could identify the victim, who was wearing a blue shalwar kameez and a grey woollen jacket.

They said they have not received any missing persons report so far, and the deceased would be identified soon after the investigation is launched.

Separately, two women were robbed of gold jewellery and cash by two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle in the Racecourse area on Wednesday.

Sardar Ijaz told the police his wife and sister were on their way home when they were intercepted by two unidentified motorcyclists in Afshan Colony. He said they held the women at gunpoint and forced them to hand over gold bangles and rings, ATM cards and Rs25,000 in cash. — Staff Reporter
