Two robbers killed, cop injured in `crossfire`

NAROWAL: Two robbers were killed and a constable injured during a crossfire in Sialkot on Thursday.

According to Khurram Shahzad, spokesperson for Sialkot district police, three suspects snatched a car from a citizen near District Headquarters Hospital in Rangpura area.

He said after receipt of information, police set up a picket and tried to stop a car in Shahabpura area.

On seeing the police, the suspects opened fire as a result constable Amir Sohail was seriously injured.

The police party chased the robbers and surrounded them near Muzaffarpur railway crossing. After a crossfire, police found two of the suspects dead while the third managed his escape taking advantage of the darkness.On the information of encounter, DPO Mohammad Hassan Iqbal and SP Investigation Ziaullah reached the spot along with a heavy contingent. Injured constable Amir Sohail was shifted to Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital, Sialkot.

Aguki Station House Officer Jahanzeb Khan said the deceased robbers have been identified. `Abdul Rahman belongs to Khushab while Izzat Khan is a resident of Afghanistan`.

Spokesman Khuram Shehzad claimed that the robbers were killed in firing by their accomplices.

The DPO has formed a team headed by SP Ziaullah to arrest the fleeing robber. Aguki police have registered a first information report on the complaint of official Kashif Mansoor.

The DPO inquired after the injured constable at Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital.
