Over Rs5 billion Karak budget approved

KARAK: The district government on Tuesday presented annual budget for the year 2016-17 with a total outlay of Rs4.28 billion. The budget was later approved by the council.

District nazim Dr Umer Daraz Khattak presented the budget and directed the concerned departments to stop the salaries of 729 inactive employees of various departments.

He informed the house that of the total outlay, Rs3.61 billion was for nondevelopment budget and Rs210.83 million had been earmarked for development purposes.

He said new taxes would be levied on private educational institutions, CNG stations, private housing schemes, crude oil, transfer of land, property dealers, NGOs, tailors and big and small-time venders to expend the tax net to the grassroots level.

The district nazim formed a 13-member committee to draft recommendations for the district government to help enforce the new taxes.

He asked the committee to submit its recommendations within a month.

The district nazim also approved special honoraria for the employees of finance and district council for preparing budget in shortest possible time.

He thanked the district councillors for exhibiting unity for approving the budget.

Dr Umer Khattak regretted that there were 186 water supply schemes from which a single drop of water was not supplied to the citizens. He said roads of the district were in ruins.

He resolved to introduce reward and punishment policy in the government departments.

He directed all the government employees to serve people honestly.

APPOINTED: Chairman of the communication and media studies department of Khushal Khan Khattalc University Karak, Prof Mirza Jan, has been appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the university.

He took charge of the new assignment on Monday.

Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhgra issued the notification in this regard.

Meanwhile, faculty and other employees of the university termed his appointment as good news for the university and expressed optimism that he would work for betterment of the varsity by utilising all his capabilities. Correspondent
