CANCER TREATMENT: The rather

2023-11-27
CANCER TREATMENT: The rather backward Balochistan province has no cancer treatment facility, and patients have to be taken to Karachi and other cities when hospitalisation is needed.

The province that has been neglected in multiple areas over the last decades needs a cancer facility rather urgently.

Khuzdar LIBRARY WOES: Islamabad Public Library is hardly a library anymore. It has become a sort of meeting room for various government officials, leaving a small area for those who visit the library for the purpose for which people around the world visit libraries. Routine repair works are also carried out during the visiting hours when they can be easily scheduled for after-hours or over the weekends. The relevant department needs to give some relief to the readers.

Tarique Hafeez Bughio Islamabad TAX AND RETAILERS: This is with reference to the article `Taxing times` (Oct 27). I would like to add to the argument a little. Among those who do not fall in the tax net currently are the retailers who have always been successful in violating government decisions to bring then under the tax net. They use various tactics to push the government on the back foot and are always successful. One wonders why it is so easy to defy the government so blatantly.

Shakir Lakhani Karachi NEGLECTED ROAD: An important road linking Badin with Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Tharparkar is in a bad shape after years of neglect. The Asian Development Bank approved the construction and rehabilitation of the road, but the formalities have remained `in progress` without there being any actual progress worth its name. The residents of Pangrio and surroundingvicinities arefacing a lot of trouble. The higher authorities should speed upthe processforthe construction of the neglected road.
