BAHAWALPUR: An elderly man died in mysterious circumstances after a police raid on his house at village 7/BC in Baghdadul Jadid area here on Saturday.
Reports said a police party raided the house of Muhammad Ramzan (65) to arrest his son Nadeem, who was wanted in a case. He could not be arrested duringthe raid.
According to PRO Umar Saleem of DPO Syed Muhammad Abbas, police did not torture Ramzan, who was a heart patient, and he died after police returned from his house. However, he said the DPO has ordered an inquiry into the death of Ramzan.
Meanwhile, the Qaimpur police onThursday booked seven people, including three lawyers, for allegedly torturing complainant Muhammad Nadeem with iron rods and clubs on the premises of Hasilpur sessions court on Friday.
According to complainant Nadeem, the suspects forced him to withdraw the writ petition filed by his relative with the Bahawalpur bench of the high court.
He alleged that the suspects forcibly took his thumb impressions on plain papers and he feare d some foul play. The police on Saturday registered a first information report under sections 337, 342 and 379 of Pakistan Penal Code against them with no arrest. Correspondent
