TOBA TEK SINGH: The families and relatives of two robbery suspects who were killed in an alleged encounter with the Peoples Colony police staged a protest demonstration at the District Council Chowk.
They blocked traffic on all the roads coming towards the roundabout and chanted slogans against the alleged fake encounter. The deceased were identified as Muhammad Afzal (45) and Shahzad Ahmad (40).
According to a police report, the suspects had robbed a man at the ATM of a bank. They were fleeing by a car when the Dolphin Force personnel of the Peoples Colony Police Station chased them and intercepted them near the D-Ground Road. The suspects opened fire on the policemen who also retaliated.
As a result of the shootout, both the suspects received bullets and died instantly.
However, the protesting families of the deceased told the reporters that both deceased and the third car rider, Suhail, were going to hospital for taking medicinewhen the police opened fire on them.
They said all three men were unarmed and surrendered to the police but even then the policemen opened fire on them, killing Afzal and Ahmad on the spot. Suhail escaped but he too received a bullet shot.
They said they have searched all hospitals for the injured Suhail but in vain. They said there were a number of CCTV cameras near the `encounter ` site which would prove that both the men were killed without any justification.
