LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza has said that the claims of a clean Punjab have turned into a ‘sinking’ Punjab and the people are suffering from the worst conditions. After debt, inflation, and unemployment, Punjab is now sinking in flood water.
In a statement here on Monday, he said the government is busy with advertisements while the people are facing flood disaster. He said the provincial spokesperson’s press conference had not yet ended when news of thousands of acres of land being submerged due to the breach of the dam in Ferozwala spread, in which the loss of innocent lives is regrettable. ‘The deaths of children in Nishtar Colony and Ferozwala are proof of the government’s incompetence. The land connection between Lahore and Central Punjab has been affected. The government is only making claims.
Mr Murtaza said the railway track in Sheikhupura was washed away, the people were left helpless, while the standing crops of farmers were destroyed due to the breach of the dam in Liaquatpur. He said rainwater drains are wreaking havoc in Rawalpindi, the government is a silent spectator, the people are in trouble but the government is still reporting that ‘everything is fine’.
He said that those who claim to respect the voters have left the people at the mercy of difficulties. He termed the approval of the Punjab Assembly to dismiss 100,000 employees as an anti-people decision and said that the dismissal of employees from education, health and other departments is unacceptable.
‘The government is committing economic murder of millions of families instead of providing employment. The abolition of institutions like PWD, utility stores and Passco is an anti-people policy.
