LAHORE: The Punjab government has banned bathing in accumulated rainwater on streets, roads, open spaces or any other areas for a period of 60 days.
During the monsoon season and period of heavy rainfall, the Punjab government says there is a significant increase in the accumulation of rainwater in low-lying areas, streets and open spaces, posing serious risk to the safety of children, who often engage in bathing activities in such water.
The Punjab government says the prevailing weather conditions and the inherent dangers associated with these activities necessitates immediate preventive measures to safeguard public safety and prevent loss of precious lives.
Through an order issued by the home department on Monday, the government has also banned swimming by any person or for unauthorised purposes in dams, rivers, canals, ponds, lakes and distributaries; as well as boating by any unauthorised person or for unauthorised purposes in dams, rivers, canals, ponds, lakes and distributaries.
