KARACHI: A policeman was shot dead by suspected robbers over putting up resistance in Korangi late on Thursday night, said police.
They added that policeman Yasir Mohammed was in plain clothes when two armed motorcyclists tried to loot him.
As he put up resistance, the suspects opened fire on him and fled, said Korangi SSP Shah Jahan Khan.
He suffered critical bullet wounds and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The of ficer added that later on the victim was identified as a policeman who worked at Estate Management Department of the police at Central Police Of fice.
His funeral prayer was held at police headquarters in Garden which was attended by senior of ficers.
Meanwhile, a police spokesperson in a statement described him as a martyr and said that he was killed in a `targeted killing` attack.
Mechanic shot dead A 50-year-old mechanic was shot dead in Qasba Colony in Orangi Town on Friday evening.
West SSP Suhai Aziz said that Irshad Ahmed was sitting at his mechanic shop near Ali Imambargah when armed motorcyclists shot him. He died on the spot.
The suspects did not take away his cash, mobile phone or anything else.
The senior officer said that the police recovered a CNIC from the crime scene, which the attackers might have dropped purposefully or it may have fallen.-Staff Reporter
