Suspect shot dead, policeman hurt in shootout

KARACHI: A suspected robber was gunned down and a policeman was wounded in an alleged encounter off National Highway on Wednesday.
Shah Latif Town SHO Zamir Ahmed Khuhawar said two armed robbers were looting citizens in Abdullah Goth when a patrolling police party reached there. On seeing the police, the suspects resorted to firing. In an ensuing exchange of firing, one suspect, identifie d as Mohammed Ansar, 23, was gunned down while his accomplice managed to escape from the spot.
Policeman Zubair Butt also suffered a bullet wound in the shootout.
His was stated to be out of danger.
The police claimed to have recovered one motorcycle, snatched cell phones and wallets from their custody.
The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.
Man killed near Nagan Chowrangi A 40-year-old man was gunned down near the Nagan Chowrangi flyover in North Karachi onWednesday evening.
The Gabol Town police said that Fazal Rehman was shot and killed by unidentified assailants.
According to initial statements, the victim was traveling with his uncle, Arif, on a motorcycle. Arif remained unharmed. He told the police that two men on another motorcycle opened fire on Fazal from behind and fled.
Fazal sustained bullet wounds to the head and died on the spot. The attackers wore masks.
Police ruled out robbery and said the incident appeared tobe atargeted killing. However, the exact motive is still being ascertained. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Woman stabbed to death in Korangi A 42-year-old woman was killed and a man injured in a stabbing incident in Korangi on Wednesday evening.
The Zaman Town police said the incident occurred inside a house in Sector 48-A, where the woman and a 45-year-old man, Mohammed Ali, were critically injured during a personal dispute. -Staff Reporter
