Jirga ends tribal feud of Brohis

LARKANA: A threeyear-old dispute between two factions of a Brohi tribe in Garhi Yasin was resolved through a jirga (tribal council) held under the mediation of former provincial adviser and PPP leader Mir Muhammad Amin Mengal, at his residence in Larkana, the other day.

After hearing both parties, the jirga fixed blood money at Rs5 million per killing. With one murder proven against each faction, a fine of Rs10 million was imposed on each side.

Compensation of Rs500,000 each was set for two people injured in the violence, including a girl bystander, to be paid by Jahangir Brohi’s faction.

However, the murder of Lalu Brohi, a resident of Shahdadkot, was not proven against the accused party, and both sides were made to take an oathin thisregard.

The jirga further ruled that whichever party initiates aggression in future would be liable to a fine of Rs10 million. The two factions were then made to embrace each other, formally ending the enmity.

According to details, three years ago in Shahdadkot, Lalu Brohi cousin of Gulsher Brohi of Garhi Yasin was murdered. In retaliation, Bilawal Brohi, son of Jahangir Brohi of Garhi Yasin, was killed.

Subsequently, men from Jahangir Brohi’s faction killed Sadiq Brohi, a resident of Fageerpur village near Medeji, in revenge .
