KAR ACHI: A security guard and a sanitary worker were shot dead in a suspected targeted attack while they were performing their duty in front of an office of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in Gulistan-iJauhar on Monday af ternoon, of ficials said.
They added that two suspects riding a motorcycle and wearing helmets opened fire on the victims outside the FBR office in Block 17 and fled. The wounded men were taken to a private hospital in the same area, where doctors pronounced them dead, said Gulshan SP Abdullah Memon.
The victims were identified as Tanzeem-ul-Huda and Fageera.
The officer said the guard belonged to the FBR.
Another police officer said that only Tanzeem-ul-Huda wore clothes resembling the police uniform while Fageera was stated to be a sanitary worker who wore civilian dress. He was also stated to be working as a guard there, said the official.
`It appeared to be a targeted killing incident,` said CTD DIG Amir Faroogi, adding that the guard was targeted on suspicion of being a policeman as his uniform resembled that of the police.
DIG Amir Farooqi recalled that a guard was also gunned down in the same vicinity of Gulistan-i-Jauhar earlier this year on suspicion of being a policeman as the victim also wore clothes resembling the police uniform.
The CTD suspected involvement of the same militant outfit which had carried out recent targeted killings of policemen in the metropolis.
Meanwhile, Sindh IGP A.D. Khowaja took notice of the incident and sought a detailed inquiry report from the DIG East.
Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal ordered security high alert and snap checking in the city and immediate arrest of the terrorists involved in the double murder case.
