RAWALPINDI: A trader was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs10 million here on Tuesday.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Omer Akhtar Hayat Laleka confirmed that the kidnappers had demanded ransom for the release of the trader.

The kidnap victim, who deals in hosiery, was abducted by four people from his house in the Mohanpura area.

`The kidnappers reached the house in a Surf van and rang the doorbell. When the trader`s younger son came to the door, the armed men dragged him into the vehicle and threatened him to call his father,` a senior security official said. As the trader came out, the occupants of the van abducted him, leaving the boy behind.

The trader`s elder son tried to chase the vehicle but his way was blocked by two motorcycle riders who apparently were guarding the Surf van.

The bike riders held the boy at gunpoint and snatched his mobile phone.

They told him that his father had been taken away by outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The motorcyclists asked the boy to arrange Rs10 million for the release of his father.

Meanwhile, another businessman went missing from the Ganjmandi area on Tuesday.

Liaquat Qureshi, a resident of Peoples` Colony, had gone to a beverage distributor to deliver Rs3.8 million to him but disappeared with the cash.
