HY DE R A BA D: A division bench of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit, on Tuesday suspended operation of a Sindh education department notification that had allowed teachers to do part-time job.
The bench comprising Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and Justice Fahim Ahmed Siddiqui ordered all commis-sioners to ensure that not a single government servant worked as journalist or occupied a press club building as an office-bearer. It also directed commissioners to submit a report on the next date of hearing ie Sept 22.
The order was passed on a constitutional petition filed by Marghoob Rizwan Thebo, a Nawabshah-based journal-ist, seeking action against those government employees who were working as journalists in violation of the Civil Servant Conduct Rules.
A notification dated Nov 24,2012issuedbythe education secretary and produced in court suggested that all employees working in the department were allowed to do part-time job.The courtobserved thata teacher was believe to be engaged only in betterment of students which was not confined to attending class but required much more than that. It said that the same could not be believed if a teacher was allowed to focus his abilities and skills on some other profession.-Staff Correspondent
