MINGORA: Speakers at the ceremony here on Sunday asked writers and common people to work for promotion of their mother language.

The event was held to launch two Pashto books. A large number of poets, writers and culture activists participated in the event.

The ceremony was organised by Swat Adabi Sanga to launch `Fankar Na Mri` written by Laig Zada Laig and `Paiwand` by Sikandar Hayat Kaskar.

Prof Attaur Rehman Atta said that Laig Zada Laig examined the society critically and presented his feelings in literary language.

He lauded his poetry and prose. Speaking on the occasion, Tasdiq Iqbal Babu said that both the personality and poetry of Sikandar Hayat Kaskar had touches of humbleness.

`He is an honest and simple man, his poetry revolves around the same themes, he added.

Laig Zada Laig said that he respected all the poets, writers and artists. `Pashto language is our mother and those, who respect it, are respectable themselves.

This language has bonded us and this is our duty to promote it,` he added.

He said that that common people did not care of their language and only poets and writers had kept it alive. `I ask our people to promote our language,` he said.

He said that he wrote his book `Fankar Na Mri` on those families and artists, who worked for Pashto literature and music. `I am proud that only Banr area in Swat produced hundreds of artists and about 20 of them got fame internationally, said Mr Laiq.

At the ceremony, the organisers and participants expressed sympathy with the family of Mashal Khan, who was lynched by mob at Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan. Collective prayers were also offered for his soul.

`We demand of the government to arrest all the people involved in the lynching incident and award them strict punishment according to laws,` said Fazal Mahmood Rokhan.
