Owner, operators of chairlift arrested

ABBOTTABAD: Abbottabad police have arrested the owner and two operators of the chairlift which had fallen into a ravine in Charra Pani village here on Thursday, killing 12 people.

Police said on Friday an FIR was registered on the directives of DIG Hazara Muhammad Saeed Wazir in Lora police station under section 322 of PPC against the owner Saddulllah, two operators, Asrar Khan and Qamar, residents of Lower Dir. The police arrested the nominated accused and would produce them before judicial magistrate Abbottabad today (Saturday).

The chairlift with 13 people on board was crossing a drain when its ropes broke down and it plunged into a ravine.

Meanwhile, two children were buried alive when the roof of a house in Mohar Khurd village collapsed due to heavy rain on Friday.

Locals said the roof of the house of Hamayun collapsed, killing his son Ehsanullah, 10, and a child guest Abu Bakar, 4.

The locals retrieved the bodies from the debris.
