Wattoo for a united Opp to hold govt accountable

By Our Staff Reporter 2016-10-03
LAHORE: The Pakistan People`s Party has said all opposition parties should show flexibility to get on same page on issues like Panama Leaks and Model Town killings to pressurise the PML-N government.

`Although the Pakistan Tahreek-i-Insaf held a soloflight in Raiwind march yet the opposition could join hands to achieve a common goal investigation into Panama Leaks and punishment to the culprits of Model Town tragedy,` PPP senior leader Mian Manzoor Wattoo told Dawn here on Sunday.

Mr Wattoo called on PML-Q senior leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Ealhi on Saturday and discussed unity among the opposition ranks. `Unity among the opposition parties is the need of the hour. PPP will also talk to the PTI for running a joint campaign in the future against the government,` he said and welcomed Imran Khan`s statement that he (Mr Khan) and Bilawal Bhutto could make a new Pakistan together.

Mr Wattoo said the PML-N could not get away with Panamagate. `Gone are the days when leaders would make a lot of ill-gotten money and no body questioned them. Today people even do not like a political leader who tells a lie to them.In politics there is only room for clean leaders,` he said.

PML-Q: The PML-Q has said the N-League`s government only made false promises to people over power loadshedding and other issues but practically it miserably failed in resolving these issues.

`The N-League has only given price hike, loadshedding and lawlessness to the masses. Record development works were done in the province during our (PMLQ) government which had provided maximum funds to the peoples` representatives,` Pervaiz Elahi said.

He was talking to former Okara tehsil naib nazim Malik Zain who called on him at his residence here on Sunday and announced joining the PML-Q along with his supporters.

Senator Kamil Ali Agha, former provincial law minister Muhammad Basharat Raja, Malik Haq Nawaz, Zulfiqar Pappan and the party`s youth wing (Okara) president Shahid Baig were also present.

The former deputy prime minister said PML-Q did politics of serving people.

`During our tenure we ensured local bodies representatives got maximum powers to benefit people at the grass root level.

Provision of the best education and health facilities was ensured as our government had also given several incentives to the farmers, Elahi said.
