MANSEHRA: Inspector General of Prison, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Kifayatullah Khan on Saturday pardoned two-month jail term of over 500 inmates in Mansehra and Abbottabad jails across the board.
Mr Kifayatullah made the announcement during a visit to the district jail of Mansehra, where inmates of Abbottabad jail are also kept.
The Abbottabad district jail was flattened in the 2005 earthquake. Its reconstruction is underway.
During the visit, the inspector general also visited different barracks and met prisoners to know about their problems.
`It is a great time in your life. You should leave your past behind and lead life afresh learning from past mistakes,` he told inmates.
Mr Kifayatullah said jail was a place, where people reviewed their past mistakes and made strategy for the future.
`I ask you to mend your ways and seek the guidance of the Almighty Allah for future life,` he said.
He said a heavy electric generator would soon be provided to the jail.
`I want foolproof security of the jail and its surrounding areas. You should use all available resources to tighten security here,` he said.
The inspector general said the closed circuit TV cameras would be installed all over the jail.
He said the prison department was doing its level best to provide modern technology to jails across the province.
Mr Kifayatullah directed the contractor to immediately complete work on different schemes inside the jail.
Besides others, superintendent of jail Abdul Qayyum and head of jail hospital Dr Iftikhar Zaidi were also present on the occasion.
