KARACHI: The Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has opened its regional office in Sukkur for people of upper Sindh in order to spare them from the long and tiresome journey to Karachi to have their grievances addressed.
The office set up at District Women Development Complex on main Shikarpur Road last month would greatly help the commission to provide timely aid to victims in upper Sindh, believed to be the most volatile region in the province in terms of human rights violations, said a press release issued on Wednesday.
It said that regretfully, the region continued to witness the outdated tribal system and its consequent tribal clashes, anti-women practices like karo-kari, sang chatti, child marriages and domestic violence in addition to issues of denial of basic amenities.
Established in May 2013, the commission had been striving for protection of human rights in the province and had so far helped hundreds of victims, it said.
