2016-08-05
KARACHI: Police have arrested a woman over charges of torching her husband along with her father, brother, officials said on Thursday.

Sohail Ali, 36, was admitted in a private hospital located on Stadium Road on Wednesday evening where he died of burn wounds, said Bilal Colony SHO, Murtaza Majeed.

There were two versions of the incident, said the officer.

One version was presented by Sohail`s wife who claimed that her husband brought kerosene oil and matches, and set himself on fire inside a house in North Karachi, Sector 5-E.

However, the deceased`s mother, Mrs Safia, alleged that her son was torched by his in-laws as there were differences between the couple.

Quoting the victim`s family, the police officer said that Sohail, a resident of Sagheer Centre in FB Area, had gone to patch-up with his wife, Ms Darakshan who had been living with her parents along with their four children since the last eight to nine months. What actually transpired could only be ascertained after proper investigation, opined the officer.

The incident occurred at around 6pm on Wednesday.

The suspects claimed that Sohail, after sustaining critical burn injuries, had told them to rush him to the Aga Khan University Hospital for treatment as he worked there as a technician.

However, within two hours, he succumbed to his wounds.

The police officer said Sohail was not in a position to give any statement when he was admitted.

The police have registered FIR 105/2016 on complaint of Mrs Safia under sections 324 (Attempt to commit gatli-amd) and 34 (common intention) of Pakistan Penal Code against Ms Darakshan, her father, Rehmat Ali, her brother, Zubair and her brother-in-law, Furgan.

All suspects have been arrested and were being interrogated.-Staff Reporter
