By Tahir Siddiqui 2016-08-05
KARACHI: Anis Kaimkhani, president of the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), on Thursday approached the Sindh High Court to seek bail in a case registered against Dr Asim Hussain and others for treating and harbouring alleged terrorists of the MQM and gansters of Lyari at his hospital.

The PSM leader was arrested and sent to jail after an antiterrorism court rejected his ball plea in the case. MQM`s Karachi mayor-designate Waseem Akhtar and MPA Rauf Siddiqui and Abdul Qadir Patel of the Pakistan People`s Party, co-accused in the case, were also arrested and sent to jail after rejection of their bail applications were rejected by the ATC.

All the four accused persons were given protective bail by the SHC.

Dr Asim, a close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari, has been booked on the complaint of Rangers for allegedly treating and harbouring suspected terrorists, militants and gangsters at the North Nazimabad and Clifton branches of his hospital at the behest of the above-mentioned suspects.

In his bail application in the SHC, Anis Kaimkhani submitted that he had to leave the country in 2013 after differences emerged between him and the MQMleadership as he had apprehensions for his life.

He said he had never contacted Dr Hussain, nor did he ever refer any patient to the latter`s hospital for treatment. Mr Kalmkhani said he was framed in the case while he was abroad.

The PSM leader stated that Dr Asim had not mentioned his name in any statement.

He said that the trial court rejected his bail application without giving consideration to the facts.

The PSM leader asked the court to grant him bail in the case.
