GB receives heavy snowfall

GILGIT: The upper parts of Gilgit-Baltistan received almost five feet of snow on Friday, paralysing routine life, but also improving the chances of availability of enough water for irrigation in the summer season.

Hunza, Nagar, Astore, Ghizer and Diamer districts in Baltistan division received heavy snowfall, blocking roads and conhningpeopleindoors.

According to the Met office temperature in some areas fell to below minuses 14 degree Celsius.

The Met office said the snowfall would continue on Saturday.

Saeed Ali Nagri, a resident of Nagar district, told Dawn that upper areas of Hunza and Nagar districts had received five-foot snow, blocking all the link roads.

He said the heavy snowfall also brought joy and hope for the local residents, as it would increase water flow in the rivers and nullahs in summer thus, meeting demands for irrigation of agricultural lands.
